Volunteering to be a Course Rater

Course Rating volunteers help rate Arizona courses for play by women, in accordance with the USGA Course Rating System. This entails analyzing a course's various playing characteristics, such as the difficulty of the hazards, the landing zones for scratch versus bogey golfers, and numerous other considerations. Notes taken by the Course Rating team on site are later used to generate a slope and rating for the course.

Successful Course Raters:

    • Are good with numbers
    • Are analytical
    • Understand that a lot of walking may be involved
    • Can think on their feet
    • Understand the strategy involved in course management
    • Are team players
    • Are willing to rate all kinds of courses in all kinds of weather
    • Will represent the AWGA with a professional demeanor that will reflect positively on not only the association, but all women golfers.
    • Will rate courses at least three times per season to retain and improve current skills.
    • Will play the course as part of the rating, whenever it is made possible by the rating Captain.
    • Will continue to study the USGA Course Rating Guide so as to increase their knowledge and rate in accordance with the USGA Course Rating System.
    • Are willing to attend annual course rating seminar given by the USGA or AWGA within the state.

If you have these qualities, the Course Rating Committee may be right for you!
